1. Pressure system

[ 500hPa weather chart 2024-11-25 21KST ]

At 9 a.m., the upper atmosphere over the Korean Peninsula is under the influence of a high-pressure ridge, leading to reduced upward motion and a relatively stable structure. Over central regions, including Seoul, temperatures at the 500 hPa level are around -20°C, which is not unstable enough to trigger significant convective activity. Much colder air, with temperatures below -30°C, remains confined to inland China and near Mongolia. By 9 p.m., weather charts show the ridge moving eastward and a trough approaching. As this trough enters the region, cloud cover is expected to increase from the late afternoon, with a chance of precipitation, especially over the West Sea.

In the morning, the Korean Peninsula will remain under the influence of high pressure aloft. Temperatures at the 850 hPa level range from 2 to 6°C, with around 4°C near Seoul. There are no humid zones over the Peninsula during the morning hours, and the atmosphere remains dry and stable overall. In the afternoon, a developing trough becomes more apparent over the West Sea and begins to move across the Peninsula. Moist air masses are starting to flow in along the western coastline.

Beginning late on the 25th, rain is expected over the West Sea and the western parts of the Korean Peninsula due to the influence of an approaching low-pressure system.

On November 25, a trough approached from the west, and water vapor gradually flowed into the Korean Peninsula in the morning. By the afternoon, the trough had moved across the central region of the peninsula, causing water vapor and clouds to expand nationwide and enhancing upward atmospheric motion. As a result, thick clouds formed especially in the central and eastern coastal areas, creating favorable conditions for precipitation.

In the morning (around 9 a.m.), snow mainly fell over the central inland areas and Gangwon Province, while the southern regions remained mostly dry with no precipitation. By the afternoon (around 9 p.m.), rain was observed in most areas across the country, as the barometric trough moved through and expanded the precipitation zones nationwide.

3. Temperature

It's 09 KST skew-T log P diagram on the 25th. It's cloudy on the 25th. From temperature at 850 hpa, go down following moist adiabat to the surface, then read temperature. The maximum temperature of 25th is predicted to be 14°C.

This is the 03 KST Skew-T log P diagram for the 26th.
Since the sky is mostly cloudy, we used the moist adiabat to estimate the minimum temperature.
As a result, the minimum temperature on the 26th is predicted to be around 11°C.

4. Summary

- Low pressure approaches our country and it can rain from night.

- Hotter than yesterday.

- A cloudy day
